Ultrasound Therapy for Treating Headaches

Ultrasound Therapy for Treating Headaches

Ranging from uncomfortable to downright unbearable, headaches are something most Americans deal with on a regular basis. If you have the occasional, mild headache, it may be easy to power through it for the day. But unfortunately, most people are not so lucky.

If you’re one of the millions of people who get head-pounding headaches a few times a month (or worse, a few times a week), you may need more than a glass of water or an over-the-counter pill.

Enter: Ultrasound therapy.

What is Ultrasound Therapy?

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves generated by a transducer head (a fancy word for a machine that looks like a back massager) to penetrate soft tissue and promote healing.

Why Choose Ultrasound Therapy?

Ultrasound therapy is just one of the many treatment options we offer at Valencia Headache and Sleep Treatment Center because we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care. If other treatment methods have failed for you in the past, it may be time to try ultrasound therapy.

  • Ultrasound therapy is non-invasive, so it’s a great alternative to skin-piercing treatments.
  • Unlike pain medications, ultrasounds therapy provides long lasting relief.
  • Because it heats tissues up to 5 centimeters below the skin, it can treat what’s otherwise known as “hard-to-reach” areas.
  • It can restore circulation, heat, and blood flow to muscles that have become sore or strained.

How is Ultrasound Therapy Performed?

During a typical session, we’ll apply a gel to the area you’re experiencing pain in, like your jaw, neck, or upper back — the purpose of the gel it to help soundwaves easily penetrate your skin. Then, we’ll move the transducer machine around your skin for several minutes.

Ultrasound therapy is so popular because it’s non-invasive and not at all painful. If anything, you may feel mild pulsating or a slight warmth to your skin.

Is Ultrasound Therapy Safe?

The FDA has deemed ultrasound therapy safe, so long as it’s performed by someone who is licensed (which our technicians are!). After years of providing headache and joint pain relief to Californians, we’ve perfected the art of ultrasound therapy.
